Jeffrey Lang, a Professor of mathemetics, discusses the Pillars of Islam in a dynamic way and also talks about how he came to Islam.
I don't know what the Christian person was speaking of; I heard the entire lecture without buying anything. Of course "God", Allah can do anything. Of course He could have a son if He wanted to do so, but He does not need one. What is the purpose of having a son? We're not putting any limitations, like the Christian commentator said, on Allah by saying He doesn't have a son. We're just saying He is not in need of one, and you cannot prove that He has one. Yes, there are many deeds a Muslim must perform in their daily life, but these deeds have a way of keeping us in tune with our spiritual side and our dependence, and love of Allah. So unlike Catholocism, we do not need a spiritual leader to lead us in most of these acts, nor do we confess our sins to anyone else, besides Allah. My suggestion to the Christian, is to speak to other Muslims to fully understand what the 5 pillars are about because you obviously don't.
I am a Christian and will always be a Christian. I have "discussed" the same topics with those of the islamic faith on many occassions. The issue I have with islam is one of the most basic of all human needs-a "God" who demonstrates his involvement in the human's life beyond the obviousness of being the "creator". I have NO problems in allowing God to do as he chooses and it is my belief that he can choose to have a Son. It is not a humans responsibility nor his right to limit God in his choices. I also see a lot of emphesis on "performance" as an indication of ones "righteousness". Islam is not unlike in how it functions in comparrison to the Catholic Church during the middle ages in Europe. I gave your site a 1 because I was unable to access the "recording" without paying for a DVD.
